Digital Theatre System (DTS)

DTS, for Digital Theatre System, was introduced by Steven Spielberg with the release of “Jurassic Park” in 1993. This new technology will completely replace the conventional theatre system having projectors, film boxes, low quality picture and sound system. There are two architectural approaches to digital cinema technology. The best approach is to consider the particular needs of digital cinema and to develop specific technologies, architectures, and interfaces that are developed for cinema applications. A key aspect to the alternative architecture is the standardization of a new integrated interface for digital cinema projection systems that allows the installation of digital cinema decrypting functions in the digital cinema projector. Such an interface enables a complete digital cinema theatre system to be implemented by data networking equipment and PC’s along with a digital cinema projection system with the special decrypter circuit card installed. Such an approach results in a system architecture that is reliable, flexible in configuration and upgradeable for future enhancements.
